name ?
Most people do not identify with the "domain name" as
they prefer to call it a .com name or a "web address" But that is
exactly correct. A domain name is the name of your website or someone
elses. It has two parts. The prefix and the suffix. The prefix can
be anything you so choose.. anything. The suffix has to be a legit web
suffix. .com .net .org .us . ca. uk ect... There are dozens
of them and too many more too list when you consider the foreign
countries and private entities that create them. They all work the
same way. Its a name that you own for about 10 bucks per year. You point
your name to your web hosting companies servers or to your servers if
you are running your own. Every domain has what are called domain name
servers or DNS for short. Setting your DNS to your web hosts DNS
address makes that domain work with your pages uploaded at said web
host. Owning your own domain name makes you the true owner of your
domain name. Be careful when buying web hosting or a domain name that
your domain is yours and that your name and email address is on its
registration information. This means its yours and nobody elses. As your
property it can be sold later or kept forever you decide. Many dot com
names have sold for millions and millions of dollars. We hope
yours will be one day as well. |
